A WORD FROM LAURIE: After graduating from Watertown High School in southeast WI, I attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison and graduated with a double major of Dairy Science and Agricultural Journalism. After UW-Madison, I went to The Ohio State University for my Master’s Degree, where my research focused on limiting energy intake in transition cows. I worked for Ohio State as the Dairy Program Specialist for almost two years before going back to school to pursue my Ph.D. at Cornell University in upstate New York. My research at Cornell was related to how insulin affects milk protein synthesis. I graduated from Cornell in the spring of 2011 and joined the northeast Wisconsin Vita Plus team as a nutrition consultant and technical support person for the Vita Plus/Cornette Farm Supply team.
Outside of work, I am still involved on my family’s 130-cow Brown Swiss and Holstein farm in Watertown, WI. I help make genetics and making decisions for our herd, and we enjoy showing the Brown Swiss at state and national shows. For hobbies not related to the home farm, I enjoy running and fitness, as well as playing roller derby in Appleton. I am excited and proud to have qualified for the 2013 Boston Marathon!
